The Proper Way To Order Wine While You Are On A Date

By Ilechukwu Magnus

After purchasing luxe suits online , making reservations, and even stopping in to get your hair trimmed, you are sure you are ready for your big date Friday night. While you've never been to the restaurant before, you have heard it's the best of the best in your town.

Exciting, right? You now look forward to those moments when you will pick her to the minute when you will give her a goodnight kiss by her door step. While it may indeed go smoothly, there might be one hitch you hadn't counted on; one problem that even the most thorough dating guides fail to mention: ordering a bottle of wine.

Do you know the right step to take when your server brings a bottle of wine to your door step? If you are given a wine list, can you confidently select the right vintage? Most men will hold 'No' as an answer to all of these. Don't lose a sleep over these though. Here are some guide that will help you to navigate the complicated task of getting a bottle of wine placed on your table.

How To Order Wine On A Date

That you just purchased a high quality suits during the last suits sale is but the introductory steps towards a successful date. The next step is to order a bottle of wine that will make your night smooth without looking like you don't know what you are doing.

Learn as much as you can about the restaurant's wine list beforehand, so you don't have to feel the pressure when you're on your date. You can get this information on the restaurant's website or by calling their hostess. If you've got some off peak hour in your hands, you can make a prior reservation to taste their wine. Most restaurants don't sell liquor, you need to find out therefore. You will answer a bad name if after promising your date a nice glass of wine with dinner you can't provide it owing to the fact that the restaurant don't have wine.

However, if you don't want to risk the satisfaction of your date with the wine list of your chosen restaurant, see if they will allow you to bring yours. Some restaurants will allow you to do this, as long as you don't bring a brand they sell and pay a corkage fee.

Hold yourself together when the server presents you with the wines list. Wine lists are difficult to read, but this isn't a life or death decision. Just ask your date what type of wine she would love to take. If she says she hates red wine, your list is narrowed down greatly. Otherwise, consider what you are eating. You can get a white wine if it is a fish dish. You can both do with a red wine if the dish is smothered in tomato sauces, salmon, poultry and meaty dishes. You can buy a sparkling wine or a white wine if the food is a spicy food or pastas.

Don't base your choice on price. While it is necessary that you choose a wine you can pay for, it shouldn't be the deciding factor. A bottle of wine that is moderately priced can be just as wonderful as a highly priced one. It is also important that you avoid the house wine. It is usually selected by the restaurant to make a profit and is typically of poor quality.

How To Present The Wine

Now that you have finally decided on the right wine to use, you are not yet done though. Your server will come to your table to give you the wine. For many men, this is the confusing part. However, this is the process that will prove that the wine is worth a drink. It is inappropriate to grab the bottle out of your server's hands. Follow these simple steps instead.

When the server presents you with the unopened bottle, take a look at the label. If it is the right wine, say 'yes' and nod your head in appreciation. If it isn't the right wine, there is no need to get upset. Considering the noise in the restaurant and other human errors, it is always possible for such a mistake to occur.

After presenting you with the wine, the server will uncork it and drop the cork on the table or hand it over to you. This is so you can check whether the cork is either dry or cracked. It is necessary that the cork has a wet end which will prove that the wine is still good.

Next, the server will pour a bit of wine into your glass. Smell the wine first; it should have a sweet or fruity odour to it. If the odour you perceived is musty, mouldy or vinegary, then the wine may be bad. Once the wine is in your glass, take a sip despite the odour. If it doesn't taste good, let the server know. They will probably take it too to verify the bad taste and take it back for a change.

You should also tell the server if the wine tastes just fine. With that approval, he will then fill up your date's glass and then refill yours and allow you two to enjoy your date.

Luxurious and chic black suits , reservations at a fancy restaurant, and a great attitude are all needed for the perfect date, but you also need to know how to order a good glass of wine. Hopefully, this short guide has made ordering wine a much easier task for you.
