8 easy beauty tips every woman should follow

By Brenda Fowler

Few women look forward to aging and wrinkles with a calm, happy attitude. Thus begins the perpetual battle to retain youth, with some people resorting to drastic measures. Youth is highly valued in our culture, but there is a lot to be said for aging gracefully and with a few clever ideas that do not require any surgery, many women can look much younger, more vital and feel better about themselves.

If your eyebrows are spotty and patchy, your appearance will likely suffer. Many women fill in their eyebrows with a brow pencil. Although this certainly is an option, women are increasingly opting to tint their eyebrows. This method involves applying temporary dye to the brows; the color will fade after a few weeks, but it gives your brows a fuller, shaded in look and saves you from filling in your brows each morning.

Apply a concealer over the dark circles that contains either a yellow pigment or a pink pigment. Yellow "cancels out" the purple, and once you apply foundation over it, you will not see the dark circles. There are several shades of yellow, ranging from a pale yellow to a tan color and some orange shades. Some people find that a darker salmon color works best, because it cancels out shades of purple and blue under-eye circles. Pink enhances the white color of your eyes, and enhances your skin's glow. After applying foundation, use a small bit of pink eye shadow or light, frosty pink eyeliner under your regular eyeliner color.

Go clothes shopping. Look for inspiration in a fashion magazine and have your mind set on it as you venture from store to store. Don't stop until you find exactly what you are hoping for; bringing out the fashionista in you will be much easier when you follow your natural inclinations. If you've already got a favorite designer, see what their latest line looks like. Liz Claiborne can attribute her success to knowing how to fit a woman's body with perfect lines, patterns and colors. Donna Karan is famous for her sophisticated, tailored outfits. Whatever your personal style, there is a designer who creates with you in mind.

Bronzer is great to help give your skin a bright and sun-kissed glow. Lightly applying bronzer with a big brush to your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin can help to give you a suntanned look without the harmful UV rays. When applying bronzer, it is very important that you do not put it on too heavy. This can give your skin an orange appearance, leaving you looking more like an Umpaloompa than the sun-kissed goddess you are trying to achieve. Keep in mind that less is more when applying bronzer!

An easy moisturizer/exfoliant can be made with sugar and the citrus juice of your choice. Just mix a handful of sugar and enough lime, orange or lemon juice to make a paste. Slather the mixture on your hands in a circular motion for a few minutes. Then, wash your hands in harm soapy water and rinse well. Warning: don't do this if you have any abrasions or cuts on your hands because the acid in the juice will burn. Your hands will be soft and smooth in minutes with this method, and it costs just pennies.

Chemical hair dyes and tints can be harmful to both your skin and hair if they are used over a long period of time. There is some evidence that certain cancers can result from using hair dye for an extended time. Henna is a plant substance used to create reddish or brown tones in hair naturally, and with no dangerous side effects. Henna is also used by some people as a conditioner, and it is available in a version which does not color the hair at all. Lemon is used by people with blond hair to lighten and brighten it. Exposing your hair to sunlight with lemon juice in it produces the best results, and your hair will be clean and oil free when the juice is washed out.

One of the most significant contributing factors to the formation of wrinkles is the damaging effects of exposure to the harmful rays of the sun. Fortunately, this is something that everyone can take positive steps to avoid. Using an effective sun block is an essential habit that is easy to begin at any age. Protect your skin from the sun every time you go outside, not just on beach days. With the addition of sunscreen to just about every moisturizer and makeup brand on the market, this has never been easier to do. Check the ingredients before you buy to see if a sunscreen if included.

Get as much sleep as you need to stay healthy. It is during sleep that your body heals itself, and this is why it is good to use your anti-aging products at night.

If you are unsure of the type of skin or hair you have, consult a cosmetologist or your hairstylist for accurate information. You can experiment with make-up, hair color and hairstyles to find out what is the most flattering. When your appearance begins to improve, you will gain more confidence.
