Show Them The Power Of Hercules With This Extraordinary Card Trick

By Miles J. Sunkest

This powerful yet simple trick will be a great way to entertain the crowd and solidify your magical presence. You will convince them you have the strength of the gods and the magical abilities of Houdini with this simple yet crowd pleasing trick. It also works great as a lead in to a more difficult trick.

Right now you've got the whole crowd's awareness. You make clear that you have lately had a vision, and the ghost of Hercules has loaned you his amazing power for a period. And that you have made a decision to make use of his borrowed durability to charm the masses rather than for personal gain. As you brag more and more, they become more and more suspicious. Certainly you are making this up. You produce a pack of everyday cards. Obviously, you shuffle them a couple of times, showing they are a typical deck of cards. You call on the power of the gods one last time, and then easily tear the cards in half, hurling them in the air. The audience is stunned, and you are a hero. The men will wish they were you, and the ladies will wish they were with you.

However, this is an optical illusion, and here's how to do it. The deck will need to be set up before hand, so that it looks regular to the untrained eye, but is significantly less strong so you can effortlessly tear it in half. You can do this a couple ways. The first way is to take a straight razor, and cut every other card midway across. Make sure the cards are all lined up, so that the slices are all in the same spot. They will shuffle the exact same, but with every other card pre cut, you can easily tear them.

Another way to prepare the deck is to heat the cards in an oven. They will turn out to be more fragile this way, and will be much easier to tear, but won't seem any different. Additionally, you can take every other card, and fold it back and forth a number of times. You'll have to be cautious that each card has been folded in the same spot, or else they will be hard to tear.

This trick works best when you are in the middle of a few additional card tricks, although you don't really need to do it that way. It would certainly just appear strange if you were to all of a sudden talk about tearing a deck of cards in half, and then not be able to do any tricks afterwards. You're buddies might think it a bit unusual if you merely produced a deck of cards, tore them in half, and then started speaking about sporting activities or something.

And as with any other strategy the way you build this up will have a substantial impact on how impressed people will be. The more interesting a tale you can tell, the better response you'll get from the crowd. Mental energy, alien power, ghouls of magicians past are all great ways to add to the amusement, and keep them from guessing the trick. For best results, fling the cards in the air after you've ripped them up. This will be much more amazing, and will be a wonderful distraction for whatever the next trick is that you have up your sleeve. Have fun.
