Deciding Among The Myriad Healing Courses

By Mary Roberts

In recent years, healing courses utilizing a variety of techniques have become increasingly popular. Along with this increase in popularity has come an explosion in the types and number of courses that are offered. A comprehensive review of what's available could fill volumes, but here you can find the basics of some of the more widely available and intriguing ones.

A Japanese technique known as Reiki has become extremely popular. This easy-to-learn method can be practiced on yourself or on others after finishing the first of the three available levels. The "ki" part of Reiki refers to the "life force energy" that is passed through the practitioner to facilitate healing in oneself or another person. Once you learn this art, you just place your hands on someone and let the energy do the work.

If you like the idea of using energy as medicine, you may also be interested in pranic healing. "Prana" is the Indian term for ki and is used to help bring someone to a more natural, harmonious state of being. By studying this technique, you would learn how to bring about changes in a person's energy field to improve their flow of prana. As with Reiki, you do not need to have any special skills or training in order enroll.

Perhaps you're more drawn to something that uses a bit physical pressure. In this case reflexology might appeal to you. This technique applies gentle pressure to particular "reflex zones" in either the hands or the feet. This in turn causes changes in the energy flow in the parts of the body that correspond to that particular zone. It's not as quick to learn as the previous two examples, but it can be learned in a matter of months or less.

Another option to consider is yoga. While this may not be what first comes to mind when thinking of learning about healing, practicing yoga is considered to be a powerful tool for improving one's overall health and well-being. One could easily be overwhelmed by all the choices that are available and it's a good idea to choose carefully by considering your personal needs.

If the physical nature of yoga isn't your cup of tea, you could elect to study meditation instead. Although some people consider the prospect of sitting still for long periods of time to be very challenging, many find it to be well worth the effort. As with yoga, there is a wide variety of courses and methods from which to choose.

Staying with the mental side of things, hypnotherapy courses are becoming easier and easier to find. Once greatly misunderstood, hypnotherapy is now much more accepted by the mainstream and doesn't require any prior training. It also doesn't take years of study; completing a course can be done in just a few short months.

All of the types mentioned above come in a wide variety of styles, techniques, lengths and costs. Some can be very expensive, while others can be taken for little or even no cost. What they have in common is that they can help you to develop valuable skills that allow you to help yourself and others. Whether you choose one of these healing courses or something completely different, you may find anything from an interesting few days to a life-altering experience.
