Shyness Is Not a Lifetime Sentence - Learn How to Deal With It

By Nathaniel Gray

Shyness is an extremely common disorder. It decreases happiness, makes it difficult to become successful and reduces satisfaction with life in general. If you want to have the best life you can possibly get, you have to say goodbye to shyness and become a confident person. How to do that? Here are 3 simple tips that work like a charm:

1. Go past the anxiety

The most crucial thing is to find out how to decrease your anxiety. To learn how to do that, you need to put yourself in situations when you feel nervous and remain in these situations (no matter how difficult it is) till the anxiety is no longer that uncomfortable. Doing this on a regular basis will teach your amygdala to act despite of uncomfortable situations instead of running away from them (which will only make you feel even more insecure).

It's very important so I need to repeat that - it's going to be very difficult to resist the urge to avoid uncomfortable situations. However, if you really would like to overcome shyness, you have to persevere.

2. Don't compare yourself to others

You don't feel insecure all day and with every person. Are you insecure when you're speaking with a 5 year old child? Your answer was "no" - because you treat kids as inferior to you (she's only a child). Now imagine speaking with an attractive woman. Now you probably feel insecure because you believe this girl is superior to you. As you can see, if you don't accept yourself and don't work on increasing your self-esteem, you'll always feel insecure around people who you think are superior to you.

Change this mentality. Stop thinking about everyone in terms of superior/inferior. Everyone is equal.

3. Meet with the right people

Last but not least, a supportive social circle is a must. Meet as frequently as you can with super confident people who will teach you (even if only by watching them) how to act confident. You won't overcome shyness by playing computer games with all the shy guys from your school. You have to leave your home and become more sociable.

As you can see, overcoming shyness is a simple process but it doesn't mean it's easy. When you follow the tips from this article, you will considerably improve your self-confidence. Just don't forget that it requires a lot of practice and a lot of discipline to get rid of your shyness permanently. So make sure to be laser-focused on this part of your personality and never give up. Act on your goals!
